Cystic Fibrosis Center

The Cystic Fibrosis Center at St. Mary’s Medical Center and the Palm Beach Children’s Hospital is a one-stop outpatient clinic that specializes in the diagnosis, treatment and management of adults and children living with cystic fibrosis (CF), Alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency, chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder and bronchiectasis.

Cystic Fibrosis is an inherited genetic disease which affects all exocrine organs, especially the lungs.  Progress in the understanding and treatment of CF has helped improve the length and quality of life for those diagnosed.  Most patients experience recurrent lung infections, multiple breathing treatments and frequent hospitalization. About 1,000 new cases of cystic fibrosis are diagnosed in the United States each year, and, worldwide, an estimated 70,000 children and adults live with CF.  As a result, genetic researchers are working tirelessly toward developing treatments for the disease, which currently has no cure.

The Cystic Fibrosis Center at St. Mary’s Medical Center and the Palm Beach Children’s Hospital offers specialized services for patients including:

  • Spirometery/ Pulmonary  function tests
  • Bronchoscopy
  • Laboratory Studies
  • Chest X-ray
  • Bone Density Studies/ Dexa Scan
  • Lung transplant preparation
  • Nutrition Counseling
