Pediatric Inpatient Rehabilitation

The Pediatric Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit at St. Mary's Medical Center is an 8-bed acute inpatient unit committed to improving a child's quality of life through a progressive and integrated continuum of services. The Pediatric Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit specializes in the treatment of children ages birth to 18 who have experienced injury, illness or congenital disabilities which result in decreased functional independence. Diagnoses admitted to the unit include but are not limited to: stroke, brain injury, spinal cord injury, neuromuscular disorders, amputation and/or orthopedic conditions. The Pediatric Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit believes in and embraces the concept of Family Centered Care, respecting the role of the family as caregiver, advocate and decision maker for the child.

Referrals for pediatric inpatient rehabilitation are accepted from physicians, acute care hospitals, case managers and families. The Patient Referral Coordinator assesses each child referred for appropriateness of admission. Families are encouraged to tour the unit and meet the staff prior to admission.
