What Are They Going Through?

Everyone reacts differently to illness, especially when a young child is scared and trying to process everything happening around them, and you won’t always understand your child’s thoughts or reactions.

You can do three very important things to help get a better grasp on what he is going through:

Listen.

Don’t force your child to talk about his feelings, but be there for him and be ready to listen when he feels like talking.

Learn.

Educate yourself about your child’s condition and ask the medical team questions when you or your child is curious or confused.

Be there.

Don’t distance yourself from your child because of illness. Figure out what you can do, no matter how small, and commit to doing what you can.
